PAINTED STORK

BIRDING TOUR OF XMAS DAYS,2020

From 25th December 2020 to 4 days I am on a birding tour in Thrissur District, Kerala.

First day December 25th

PAINTED STORK(വർണ്ണക്കൊക്ക്)

Among the water birds of Kerala, the Painted Stork is the most beautiful bird, normally small groups are seen near water bodies, but today from morning surprisingly it is unbelievable, more than five hundred Painted Storks landed on the kole ie Thrissur Kole Wetlands (Malayalam: തൃശൂർ കോൾ പാടങ്ങൾ).

 The Kole Wetlands is one of the largest, highly productive, and threatened wetlands in Kerala and it comes in the Central Asian Flyway of migratory birds.  It gives 40 per cent of Kerala’s rice requirement and acts as the natural drainage system 

 Farmers are preparing the paddy field for cultivation. Tractors are on work, the Golden light of morning spreads around, slowly breezing cool winds pouring the special fragrant of Kole wetland muds.

Egrets, Herons, Bitterns, Storks, and  Ibis are entring the sene group by group. Water hens, Moorhens  Also the Sandpipers, Plovers, and Wild Ducks. The Kites, Harriers, Buzzards, Falcons, and Eagles are soaring, hovering, and flapping around the blue sky. It is quite a normal picture of "Kole} in the months of Dhanu and Makaram, ie middle of December to  January, the cultivation starting time

Insects, worms, flies, reptiles, and small mammals are the good feast of feathered beauties. when the agricultural works starting  all the avian

now it is wintertime in Kerala, 

nature is full of colorful dresses, plants are decorated with fruits or flowers. each and every corner filled with the chirping of migratory feathered beauties, the blue sky is busy. wetlands are celebrating festivals with water birds.

NOW IT IS THE WINTER TIME IN KERALA. PLEASANT CLIMATE, COOL AND FRAGRANT WIND BREEZING, THEN MIGRATORY BIRDS HAVE ARRIVED.

SHORE, WETLAND, WOODED AREAS ARE FILLED WITH CHIRPING CALL.

SKY IS BLUE AND CLEAR, CAN SEE THE HOVERING AND SOARING OF FEATHERED BEAUTIES, THE BIRDS.

sucking honey, swallowing fruits,

catching flies, searching foods 

making family, buildings sweet homes,

protecting territory, patterning youngs,

and some of them making a long journey.
